History

During the summers of 1962 and 1963, Bill Gibbs, an Ocean City resident, was a beach boy for Breakers Hotel at Third Street on the Boardwalk. Visitors would ask him every day where to go for lunch. In 1979, Bill Gibbs had the opportunity to buy the Breakers Hotel. Bill knew the front porch of the hotel would be the perfect place for a family friendly restaurant offering pizza and pancakes. The Dough Roller was born and opened in the spring of 1980.

Since then, The Dough Roller has grown. There are two locations on Coastal Highway – one at 41st Street beside the Convention Center and the other at 70th Street – and a second location on the Boardwalk at South Division Street across from the Inlet parking lot. These three locations all serve Dayton’s Boardwalk Famous Fried Chicken – an Eastern Shore tradition. A full breakfast menu is served daily at 3rd, 41st, and 70th Street locations. Breakfast features our famous buttermilk pancakes, available in over a dozen varieties. All locations serve our buttermilk pancakes all day!
